The Roads are Blocked.
(from Our Correspondent)
Ocho
Rios, Nov. 18.- High winds and heavy
rains continue here; the roads are all blocked, and as a result, up to the
time of
writing, no south-side mails have
come in,
nor are any telegraph communications
available.
The
cultivations around have suffered very
much, losing a large number of banana and other fruit trees.
An
emergency gang has been put on to
repair the roads leading to town, but
the
work is very trying, because as
soon as
anything is done the waters
from the hills,
augmented by the
overflow from the river
wash it away.

Serious Damage Done by the November [1912] Storms and Flood
St Ann
The
main roads were maintained in fairly
good
order except for a time shortly after
the November floods. Traffic had to be
suspended on Fern Gully, Claremont and
Moneague, St. Ann's Bay, Runaway Bay,
Brown's Town and Dry Harbour sections
consequent on the damages sustained.
Restorations were carried out with
despatch. Additional concrete culverts
were laid and widening of
narrow roads
done on many places.

[St Ann Parochial Board]
The Acting Colonial Secretary wrote . . . stating that the Government will bear one-
third of the cost of the drainage
of the Fern
Gully at Ocho Rios when funds permit. The Board bearing the other two-thirds.
This being essentially a main road question,
the
Board decided that it was not proper
for
the parish to bear any portion of the cost.
